THE JOURNEY OF LILA

The Beginning

2016 - 2018

Lila started as one of the first three tourism businesses in Ha Giang, offering motorbike rentals and a hostel service. In those early days, we mainly helped travelers find their way, sharing local tips with self-riders and slowly building our first tour experiences.

The Pause & Reflection

2019 - 2022

When Covid hit, tourism came to a standstill. Instead of stopping, Liam, our CEO, traveled across Vietnam to learn from fellow tour operators, gathering knowledge and experience that he later refined the strategy to shape Lila’s next chapter. This quiet period became the foundation for our upcoming journey.

Rebranding & Rising Stronger

2022 - Now

After reopening, we rebuilt Lila as a licensed inbound tour operator. Seeing safety risks, over-tourism, and local impacts in Ha Giang, we chose a different path-guided by three values: small groups, safety first, and off-the-beaten-path travel. Today, we create stable jobs for 40 local easy riders, host around 450 travelers per month, and remain a trusted local leader.

Born and raised in Dong Tien, a remote village in Ha Giang Province, Liem grew up witnessing poverty, limited education, and labor exploitation in his community. Those early realities shaped one goal: to create fair, dignified jobs for his community. After graduating from university, Liem returned home to build something meaningful in the mountains he loves. In 2016, he founded Lila Inn & Tours, a locally run hostel and travel business connecting international travelers with the authentic beauty of Ha Giang through experiences led by locals. Today, through hands-on leadership and a strong focus on safety and responsibility, Liem has grown Lila Inn into a trusted local brand, inspring young people in Ha Giang that they don’t have to leave home to build a future.

Ngoc is a dedicated advocate for ethical and sustainable travel entrepreneurship. She studied Sustainable Tourism Management in Austria and brings six years of combined experience in the tourism industry and community development. This background gives her a strong, practical understanding of how responsible tourism growth can empower local communities. Motivated by her passion for sustainability and her love for Ha Giang’s natural beauty, Ngoc joined Lila Inn & Tours in 2023 as a Development Manager. Working closely with local colleagues, she co-creates adventurous journeys that invite travelers to explore untouched landscapes while connecting meaningfully with the region’s diverse ethnic cultures. Ngoc’s long-term mission is to build an educational ecosystem in Ha Giang that provides practical tourism training for local motorbike riders and community members, aiming to equip locals with the skills and confidence to participate sustainably in the tourism economy.

Nhu comes from a customer service background and fell in love with Ha Giang’s mountains and culture from her very first visit. As a dedicated tour consultant, she spends hours carefully answering every question about the Ha Giang Loop, helping travelers plan their journeys, and making sure every detail is thoughtfully taken care of. With deep knowledge of Ha Giang’s culture, villages, and hidden gems, Nhu stays closely connected with travelers before, during, and even after the tour to ensure every experience is smooth, meaningful, and memorable. She combines her genuine kindness with a strong sense of responsibility, always working with care and heart. Known for her bright smile and friendly energy, Nhu loves connecting with people and is always happy to chat - whether it’s about local culture, travel stories, or tips to make each journey truly special.

Her connection to Ha Giang began as a traveler. From the first visit, the landscapes, people, and untamed beauty of the mountains left a lasting impression. What began as admiration quickly became a sense of purpose. That first trip inspired her to contribute meaningfully, joining a team that shares deep respect for the land and a commitment to creating authentic, responsible travel experiences.

Her journey with Lila began with a deep passion for exploring local life and discovering the richness of indigenous cultures. Although she's from central Vietnam and spent many years in the south, joining Lila has become more than just a job, it’s an opportunity to help share the magnificent Ha Giang Loop and its authentic culture with both Vietnamese and international travelers, while nurturing her own love for this country. Professionally, she hold a Master’s degree in International Management, Marketing & Entrepreneurship from Germany and bring over five years of experience in marketing, communications, and branding across the healthcare, education, and social sectors. Looking ahead, she hopes to work closely with the Lila team to strengthen our brand, position Lila as a high-quality local tour operator, and contribute to the long-term mission of developing a sustainable social community in Ha Giang.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We were recommended this Inn by  a friend who rented a bike here a few years ago. We now can say that the place is still great! We arrived at about 2am and got video instructions on how to get into our room on our own. We had a private room with private bathroom, everything was super clean. The next morning we rented a semi automatic bike for our loop, which we did on our own. I could test ride two bikes and choose the better one. We also insured the bike and got a clear contract. The staff really cared about us and our safety, they checked my national and international drivers licence, which you need to do the loop. (We got checked two times, if you don't have one go as easyrider). The staff spoke good english and also helped us to book a bus to Ninh Binh. When we came back from our trip, they allowed us to take a shower while waiting for our sleeper bus. Their little restaurant serves nice food, a little pricy for the portion size but so convinient when you just arrived after a few days of riding. 10/10 We would highly recommend the place. We don't know about the tours they offer, as we just rented.

I stayed with Lila Inn for one night before the loop and did the 4 day 3 night Ha Giang Loop. Lila Inn itself, is a very cute and clean place, I chose dorms and they were very spacious and comfortable. First of all, the loop is literally everything, everyone is saying it is. If you have time and are still thinking about it, do it! And book it with Lila Inn tours. We had the most amazing, fun group with just the four of us. The tour didn’t feel rushed at all and we saw amazing views, that other tour companies skipped, because their groups are way bigger. We met the other Lila Inn groups in the evening at the homestays, and still had our fun karaoke sessions and card game sessions. A little bit of happy water, can also not be missed (if you drink) but that is definitely not the focus with this company. Our drivers were always very responsible. All of our drivers were incredibly nice and we were able to talk to most of them in English, they taught us some Vietnamese and got to learn even more interesting information about Northern Vietnam and especially also the Hmong people and their lives. We all felt very safe and had a fun time together as a group and our drivers would make sure, we’d get the best experience. I have to point out my driver especially (Hoang Tuyen), he was absolutely amazing and turned out to be a great photographer as well! It was obvious that he loves his job. The homestays along the way were also very comfortable and clean and had extra amenities (like billiard, hammocks, etc). Food was great too. All I can say is that Vietnamese people are very welcoming and have great hospitality and this was my favorite part of the trip!

La location è abbastanza centrale direi e comunque basta chiedere e se ti manca qualcosa sono subito disponibili a fornire tutto ciò che serve.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Being in our mid-30s, we definitely wanted to experience the Ha Giang loop — but not on a motorbike for obvious safety reasons. We also weren’t too keen on drinking shots of happy water every night. Lila Inn definitely delivered! We did the 3-day, 2-night tour by car (a 7-seater Toyota). The driver was excellent — very careful on those challenging roads and smooth in his driving. He didn’t speak English, but we managed to communicate using Google Translate (with mixed results!). Since he was following the pre-agreed itinerary, everything went smoothly. The homestays we stayed in were also excellent — very clean and comfortable. The food throughout the tour was great. For example, on the last night, we had a local hot pot, while most other tours in the same restaurant were having more generic food. Before and during the trip, the Lila Inn team was super responsive on WhatsApp, helping us book our bus to Ha Giang and answering all our questions. We truly enjoyed these three days and are really happy we chose you for this tour. The price was also very competitive. Thanks a lot for everything!

Only 2 of us ended up being on the tour so it felt like a private tour with lots of flexibility. Great dorm bed first night, and beautiful homestays with delicious food throughout. What was really notable (aside from the beautiful scenery) was the dedication, professionalism, and great spirit of the drivers. Long was my driver - and though we couldn’t communicate through language it was evident how much he cared for my safety and wellbeing. Tuyèn was the leader and constantly made sure I was OK, happy, and went above and beyond. They were also amazing personal photographers haha. They showed me an authentic Vietnamese experience and I will forever be grateful. We got to visit markets and communities of the local peoples (such as the Hmong), unique and quiet coffee stops, and great viewpoints. Please choose this company if you want a local, organically run tour that really cares about those who are on it. As a solo female traveller I could not have felt more supported, safe, or have had a better time. Also the manager Liam was very responsive and helpful with busses and luggage storage, as well as the tour overall.

We booked a 3D2N Loop Tour with Lila and had the most amazing experience! Our Easy Riders Am and Nun were super nice, patient, and made such an effort to make our tour unforgettable! I can just recommend it! Make sure to get some padding shorts (cause your butt will hurt after riding 2-3 days haha).

 Verified Food, views and a sore backside Excellent.We booked last minute on the morning of the 25th, and were in Ha Giang that night.We took a sleeper bus from Hanoi, leaving at 15:00 and arriving by 23:00.Our 2-day tour took us to Dong Van and back, with fantastic views all the way.Lunch and dinner with our riders consisted of rice and various sharing dishes (beef, pork, fish, 2-3 veg), and was good quality food cooked in family-run eateries. Our riders were great guys, safe drivers, and got us through rain and the aftermath of a mudslide being cleared away. Thanks bothYou’ll have a sore backside if you’re not used to riding passenger on a motorbike, but the experience was well worth the small discomfort.Thanks to the team at Lila Inn!

 Verified Great Experience The Ha Giang Loop Tour is one of the top 5 most beautiful experiences I had on mine. With Lila Inn it was great. Our group was three riders and three travelers and that was great because we met a lot of very large groups along the way and I definitely preferred our small group. The drivers were super safe and responsible and I never felt unsafe at all. Also the accommodation and meals was great. And eating together with the drivers was always very fun and we got many insights about life in Vietnam.  Verified Great time on the 4D3N Ha Giang loop! Had a great time on the 4D3N Ha Giang Loop tour with Lila Inn! I felt safe the entire way, with my driver (Hoa) never going above 60km/h. We were taken to many view points and waterfalls along the route. We were with a tour group of only 4 people, which made the experience even better. Whilst the meals were similar, there was always a variety (chicken, beef, tofu, egg) and it was ALL so tasty. Would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants a chill (non-party) tour around the beautiful Ha Giang loop! There is the opportunity for karaoke and to play pool at the home stays for evening entertainment too. Communications with Lila Inn was easy throughout the booking/trip.  Verified Incredible experience We took a 2 day tour on the ha giang loop. We were 2 with 2 drivers (Ngà and Thành). We had a great time, the scenery is amazing.  Verified We had the time of our lives We did the 4d3n tour with Lila and it was amazing. Liam told us a bit about himself and he's love for the region. We decided to go with the 4 days tour as to allow for a more relax pace. Since no one else booked the same tour, it was just the two of us. Our drivers were absolutely outstanding : very safe, looking after our every needs, taking on the role of photographer at every stops for us, even cooking. They had all the tips and tricks to make this trip memorable.When on the road, we saw a lot of other groups and most of them were very large groups of party goers ; we're so happy we went with something different.
